Unlike fine wine, the Frontier restaurant certainly does not get better with time. ImMy wife and I decided to ttake my father out for lunch for his birthday. We went to the Frontier because it had great food and service back in the 90's when Bruce and Albert owned it. We were not greeted for some time and had to finally call for a waitress. When we were brought our food it was a mess. The bread for the sandwiches was soggy, the poutine was cold, the coleslaw was translucent from sitting under a heat lamp, and on and on. The setting was rustic all right, dad ripped his pants on a rusty nail on the chair he sat on. The waitress had to be asked for refills since she couldn't think of it on her own. The whole experience was bad. We will not return to the place, we were very disappointed.

I have been frequenting (and I mean frequent!) Calgary's Chinese restaurant scene for more than 20 years, and have visited literally dozens of different venues in that time. The review above has prompted to write this brief response. Sun’s BBQ Restaurant serves the best - authentic - Chinese food I have had in this city. As K notes, it is Hong Kong style - so if you're looking for westernized fare, stick to the food courts. However, if you want an absolutely delicious and real Hong Kong style meal, this is the place.

I did this hike in the Summer of '88. I got there fairly early and was able to get a table on the upper deck. I remember sharing the table with two gals from California. We gave each other our addreses, and being from Vermont, I mailed them both a sample of Vt. Pure maple syrup. Are you reading this? Was it you? Do you remember that experience? If so, drop me a line! ggadouas@hotmail.com

PS....My wife and I are headed back out there next July ('10) Can't wait to show her this beautiful place. I just hope it hasn't changed at all.

Dont know what you guys are talking about. We go there almost every week and just love the service and food. They do get busy at times specially on the weekends but thats with every restaurant. for people who want food faster there are fast food joints. a restaurant meal takes time cause they have more than bacon and egg guy to deal with :( My entire family goes there and i often take the kids hockey team there they are always accommodating. The management is fabulous cause they serve you with a smile :)

I'm surprised to hear that you thought this place wasn't Chinese. It is owned by a guy from Hong Kong and serves authentic Hong Kong style cafe food. Which is what the restaurant is. The bathroom is awful for sure but the food stands strong enough for me to put up with it. The staff operate much like they do in HK. When you're ready, you call them over. You won't find the small talk and pampering you'd find at your earls, moxies, etc... They are all about the business.
